Without Further Ado

I give you the Husbands’ Family Reunion 2012.

One house. Seventeen adults. One baby. One week. And what a week it was! We ate. We biked. We strolled on the beach.

We ate. Some of us ran. We napped.

We played with the baby.

We goofed off. (Note: I may look like I’m smiling, but I am actually screaming in pain. Giving someone a piggy back when you are extremely sunburnt is NEVER a good idea.)

And we ate some more.

Did I mention we ate? Because that was the main activity. Life for the week revolved around meal time.

We converged on Tybee Island, GA on July 21st for a long-overdue week of family bonding. The last time we were all together was my sister’s wedding back in 2007! Since then we’ve had another wedding, a baby and two engagements. There was a lot of catching up to do.

Tybee is a tiny, beautiful island just outside of Savannah and practically on the GA/SC line. The main attractions are the lighthouse

..and the famous Crab Shack.

Everyone loved the Crab Shack.

The trip was a huge success. My grandmother declared it was the best week of her life and my great-aunt (who wasn’t even there) was so impressed by the stories that she asked my mother to plan her funeral. Morbid, yes, but that’s my family for you.

Truly, Mom did an amazing job. She thought of everything. Dinners were prepared. Chores were assigned. Games were created and rules were invented as we went along. Why? Because that’s what we do.

And the best part? Mom threw a birthday party for all the “kids” since we never got to celebrate together when we were growing up. Complete with a pinata and cake!

We each got the first letter of our first name on the cake: Jennifer, Michael, Sarah, Ben, Amanda, Rebecca, Joel, Zach, Nikki, Drew, and Parker. (Side note: the cake came from a brand new bakery – they’d only been opened a week – The Jitterbug. This peach pudding cake was made with local eggs and dairy and wasn’t overly sweet. A delicious guilt-free treat!)

We all took a turn at the pinata, even Pop-pop, who was a bit perplexed by the whole thing!

All in all, it was a fun and relaxing week filled with family and food. Though we all agreed that for the next one we will head north, possibly to Maine, to escape the sticky southern humidity!
