Heat Wave

It’s hot.

Too hot to cook. Too hot to run. Too hot to take pictures (well, too hot to haul my camera around). Too hot to think. And, therefore, too hot to write.

I shouldn’t complain. The weather this summer has been mild compared to last summer. But I wasn’t training for a half marathon last summer.

The real reason I haven’t been writing is that I just haven’t had time. Work has been crazy (I put in almost 20 hours of overtime last week). I went in early, worked through lunch and stayed late. I managed to keep up with my training schedule for the half marathon, but that was all I had energy for. Work. Run. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. That was last week. Fingers crossed that this week is a bit calmer!

I’ve got 3 weeks of training under my belt and thus far things are going well. Knock on wood. Yesterday I woke up at 5:30 to get my 6 miles in before the heat became unbearable. There was a bike race going on in the park and I was nearly run over multiple times. It was quite the experience. Between the running and the heat, I was completely wiped and spent the rest of the day lounging around in the AC, reading and watching TV. It was incredibly unproductive.

That’s pretty much been life the past week or so. Lots and lots of working. That’s all I’ve got. The heat really has fried my brain.

Things are supposed to cool down this week. Hopefully I’ll have something more interesting to share as a result.

8 July 2012. Running, That's Life.
