Today is my birthday.

I’ve never been big on birthdays. To be perfectly honest, I don’t really understand the point. My mother did all the work. I didn’t choose to be born. In fact, I had no say in the matter. The whole thing was completely out of my control. Why should I get presents? But here I am.

I am 26. It’s strange to think that I have a full quarter century of life under my belt. Twenty six years seems like a long time, yet I still feel so young and extremely incompetent when it comes to this thing called life.

Don’t worry. That’s as deep and sentimental as I’m going to get here today.

Rather than waxing poetic on how I’ve grown and what I’ve learned over the past year, I will simply leave you with a photographic sampling of some of the high (and low) lights from my 25th year of existence.

10. I experienced a Cranberry Bog…in the middle of Rockefeller Plaza!

9. I survived a car breakdown in the middle of Manhattan.

8. I learned to cook

(sort of…)

7. I took up running.

6. I took a photography class.

5. I cleaned up my diet by eliminating (most) processed and refined foods.

4. I “adopted” a little girl in Peru through World Vision (more on her later).

3. I said “goodbye” to the Farm.

2. I moved to Brooklyn!

1. And the undisputed highlight of twenty-five: I hiked the Inca Trail with my best friend (and our friendship survived, too!).

27 April 2012. That's Life.
